When I studied from the Chatov’s in the 1980’s, we were taught to draw the figure first with yellow ochre.Then, put in all the darks with raw sienna. And finally, having completed the drawing and established the lights and darks, color was the next step. But I liked this painting just as is, before any color was applied. The trick is... to know when to stop. Sometimes you can go too far.
