In English, you would say, ‘Fun in the Sun in Marseille”, but since this painting hung in a French gallery in Lourmarin, it had to have a French name.
I painted this one morning last August standing on the busy highway that weaves its way through Marseille right on the edge of those fabulously bleached white rocks and the oh, so blue Mediterranean sea. I was standing on a narrow sidewalk with my art box perched on said rocks looking out over a popular inlet where the French come to sun themselves and swim in the deep blue. What a scene. All sorts of boats, skiffs, floats. And lots of people sunning and swimming and skimming along on the water. What a lot of fun in the sun.
