Last year we went to Venice once again and while walking in the famous San Marco Square, I noticed these gondolas lining the boardwalk, lazily floating in the glittering water. I couldn’t help but want to paint them. Here again, there is a blue and white theme going, which I adore.
Curiously, there is something about boats in general that makes me want to paint them… anywhere, be it Venice or Booth Bay Harbor or Cassis. The line of the hulls, their reflections in the water, the brilliance of their colors, and even the water itself all make for great subject matter.
