Don and I visited Kenya and Tanzania on many occasions in the 90’s. And one of our favorite haunts was Lewa Downs, a 60,000 acre game reserve in sight of Mt. Kenya.
There we were guests of Emma and Will Craig, who ran the most exceptional bush homes where the guests could go on safaris and stay in these incredible thatched roofed cottages. One of the most charming structures on the property is this greeting room made of volcanic rock and decorated by the talented Miss Emma. All the furniture and woven fabrics were made on location there by the local Kenyans. And the whole place was full of great subject matter to paint.
