One of the pleasures of Provence are the ever present rows of Platanes. We have in America a close cousin with our Sycamore trees, but, somehow, our sycamores don’t measure up to the Provencial Platane. The French variety must have very long tap roots, because, once established, never ever need to be watered. And, not only that, Platanes here are very long lived... some, I have been told, live to be as old as 500 years.
They are ever present in our French life, grand and majestic, and great fodder for a painting.
