Don and I have been fortunate to be able to travel throughout Europe, to Africa and Mexico, and to many other beautiful locales for inspiration for my paintings. Finding the settings is only part of the process: I believe strongly in the energy of a place, the je ne sais quoi that comes from painting on location.
It’s hard to make a landscape unique. Painting nature without the human element doesn’t interest me. Therefore, the warm rooftops of a Provençal village or a winding road in Tuscany enrich any landscape, no matter how beautiful.
Now that we are living our dream here in Provence, I have a smorgasbord of subject matter all around me. I have so much to choose from to paint… from the quaint villages of Lourmarin and Lauris close by, to the harbor town of Cassis, less than an hour away, and the wonderful fields of lavender and vineyards in between, I will never lack for something wonderful to inspire me.
