I am bewitched by the beauty around me; I want to record it.

Rooftops

Rooftops

Our five-year sojourn in Europe was a painter’s gift.So much spoke to me, especially the old cottages and buildings with their drooping rooftops.  I love things that are old, have character, tell a story—the more crooked and imperfect, the better.

When I find a very paintable subject, such as the hillside of houses in Cortona with that strong Italian light, I have an irresistible urge to capture the light, marry yummy colors, produce unexpected juxtapositions… these are the things that bring me back time and again to some of the same subjects.
