I am bewitched by the beauty around me; I want to record it.

Still Lifes

Still Lifes

Still lifes are a most useful tool for any artist.  Not only are they a wonderful way to study and implement light, color, contrast, composition, but subjects are always handy.

For me, amaryllis flowers are an absolute pleasure to paint.  I love their boldness, their direction of line, their simplicity and, whoa… their color.  Apples, pears, oranges, flowers in a vase, all on an interesting plate or colorful tablecloth with a light shining directly on them: these are examples of everyday objects that can be transformed into the extraordinary by an artist’s unique interpretation.
