The first three years of our sojourn in Provence, we rented a charming apartment across the street from one Bernadette we called the grand dame of Lourmarin. Her Villa Saint Louis, a fabulous Chambre d’Hote (or B&B), decorated in 17 th century antiques and accoutrements is a real stunner. Only five bedrooms to rent, each one more beautiful than the other, stay booked all season.
Bernadette was always so welcoming and generous to us, allowing me to come over with my paints and capture the beauty of her place. With this particular painting, I stood in the upstairs hallway looking into one of the bedrooms. From the exquisite wallpaper to even her lampshade covered in a scrumptious print, it was great subject matter.
