Last of the Pears

Oil on canvas

22×28 in.

This is one of my recent favorites. Why? I suppose because it is basically blue and white. I always love this combination in any form … be it a room’s décor, a bowl, any pottery, fabric.

Also, I love this painting because it is unfinished. There is something that is appealing to me when a painting is not completely finished… the unexpected, I guess. It’s as if the viewer can look behind the painting. And the line I used, especially around the pears. It is expressive, a bit careless and, therefore, artistic.

I always tell my students, when painting a still life, to paint objects that they are fond of, that they have an affinity for. For sure, this tablecloth is one of my favorites. And the bowl, also.
