Oil on gallery wrapped canvas
32×44 in.
Elephants are my favorite animal in the whole wide world. I have been to Africa (Kenya, Tanzania and South Africa) many times and each were extended stays of 2-12 weeks and each time I’ve had the opportunity to watch elephants up close. Each time I am transfixed by their size, their care to their young, their slow, easy nature, their silent treading. Even one time on foot, I walked right into a threesome, unknowingly disturbing them. Whoa, an unforgettable moment.
To me, It is hard to imagine that any human being is capable of harming these magnificent, gargantuan beasts. Their numbers are decreasing at an alarmingly fast pace in the world and, I hope in my lifetime, there will be an end to this grotesque slaughter.
