I have often said that painting gardens is difficult. Maybe it is simply that I don’t like a lot of green in any painting. I find it a bit sad, sometimes overwhelming and just not interesting. Furthermore, I think one of the secrets to creating a good landscape or garden painting is to make sure you have some things that are man made in the composition… be it a house or dwelling, a pot, a table, even a path or sculpture. This painting has all of that. And some magnificent irises don’t hurt, n’est pas?
