In the late eighties, when we lived in Paris for those two short years, we would explore France as many times as we could. One such trip was to Biaritz on the west coast, where I fell in love with all the umbrellas on the beaches there. My first several beach paintings were painted on site sitting in the sand dunes above the pink or salmon-colored sand and reveling in all those multi colored umbrellas. It was a feast for this artist’s eyes. In this one, like the others, I invent the bright colors and parasol patterns.
