Between the kitchen and primary suite lies the home’s original hall d’entrée, with a door opening onto the rose garden parterre and its stone fountain. The hall also provides access to a charming water closet with hand-painted tilework and the stone staircase, framed by wrought-iron railings, leading to the first-floor guest bedrooms.

The en suite bath continues the home's wonderful mix of rustic character and thoughtful details, with a mix of antique tile floors, a towel warmer, and a large tiled walk-in shower finished with brass Belgian hardware. Beautiful naturally-finish antique wood doors conceal extensive closet and storage space, adding warmth and texture to the room.

One of the bath's most charming features is the custom vanity, created from finds sourced in L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue. An antique wood chest of drawers with patinated brass hardware has been repurposed as the base and topped with a blue-and-white china bowl basin, making it a truly unique feature of the room.

Tucked discreetly just beyond the bath is the laundry room, offering ample space and conveniently located within the primary suite while remaining completely out of sight from the bedroom and living areas.

The Atelier

Adjoining the north side of the primary bedroom is a beautifully integrated, light-filled atelier, currently used as the owner's artist studio. Originally a garage, the space was fully converted as part of the home and features exposed beams, and a wall of windows with a French-door entrance opening toward the northeast garden and views of the Luberon mountains. Just outside the doors is additional garden space with the opportunity to create another inviting sitting area from which to enjoy the surroundings.

While presently serving as a painting studio, the room offers wonderful versatility for future use. It could easily become a private office or library, a sitting room, or an additional bedroom, effectively expanding the primary suite into an even more substantial private retreat.

Each room has its own character, with antique pine floors, beautiful old wood doors and a palette that moves from soft blue to a fresh, cheerful yellow, a warmer, richer yellow, and deep Provençal red. Chandeliers in the common spaces and ceiling fans in the bedrooms add another layer of charm and comfort, while additional crawlspace storage tucked beneath the eaves provides valuable space without intruding on the rooms themselves.

The red sitting room is positioned between two of the bedrooms, creating a welcoming shared space while also providing additional separation and sound privacy between the sleeping quarters. Together, the arrangement gives the upper floor the feeling of a distinct guest retreat rather than simply a collection of bedrooms. (This room could easily be converted into two separate full bathrooms, giving each of the upstairs three bedrooms their own private en suite.)

Serving the guest floor is a full bath with walk-in shower, complemented by a separate water closet at the end of the hall. This arrangement allows the bathing area and water closet to be used independently, a particularly practical feature when hosting multiple guests. The bath continues the thoughtful detailing found throughout the home, with antique tile flooring, brass fixtures, the same thoughtful repurposing of an antique chest of drawers as a vanity with a deep porcelain basin, and a charming traditional wrought-iron grille de fenêtre featuring an agave-stalk motif.

The same attention continues outdoors, where roses, irises, lavender, climbing vines and other flowering plants soften the stone and architecture throughout the gardens. These are the details that reveal themselves slowly, in a doorway, beneath your feet, through a window, or along a garden path, and together they are what give the property so much of its charm.

When we designed the home and gardens, we did so with a painter’s mind. Everywhere you turn is a composition for a painting. A doorway framing the garden, sunlight falling across old stone, flowers spilling into a path, or a view opening toward the Luberon. These little things are what make the property feel like home.

Ansouis and Cucuron are less than ten minutes away, with Lourmarin and Pertuis approximately fifteen minutes by car. Within half an hour, you can cross the Luberon Mountains to explore its many picturesque villages and lavender fields, or head south to Aix-en-Provence for the restaurants, shops, museums and cultural life of a larger city. In either direction, the best of Provence is within easy reach, while home remains peacefully tucked away in the countryside.

For travel farther afield, Aix-en-Provence TGV station is approximately 45 minutes from the property, putting Lyon just 1½ hours away and Paris within approximately 3 hours by high-speed train. Marseille Provence Airport is approximately 50 minutes away, providing easy connections throughout Europe and beyond.
